Glittery the Kindness Elf

'Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la. I hope the holiday season is treating you well!  You may have heard that we wrote a letter to Santa to request an elf for our classroom.  Luckily, we were sent an elf that just graduated Elf School. He is not just any elf, he is a kindness elf. Every day this month, we have a kindness mission from our elf, who by the way was named Glittery. So far we have given others compliments, made thank you cards for cafeteria staff, kept our classroom extra tidy for the custodians.

It has been a lot of fun doing these good deeds with all my kindergarten friends!  It sends such an import message!

Here is a picture of Glittery. He fell off our easel yesterday, so he's got a little boo-boo.  The heart tucked under his arm is where we find our next kindness mission.

50th Day of Kindergarten

We had so much fun on our 50th day of kindergarten!  We talked about and sorted pictures to compare the similarities and differences between 1950's and 2014.

We made books about the 1950's.

We made rootbeer floats!

We danced at our Sock Hop!

During math, Zero the Hero helped us practice counting to 50 by 1's and by 10's.  Zero the Hero also gave the class gumballs for a Bubble Blowing Contest.

"Word from the bird," it was a great day!  Thank you for your participation!

We are thankful for...

We are thankful for our veterans for keeping us safe!  The soldiers that we made were sent home for Veteran's Day, but check out the pictures of them all together.  I was so proud of the hard work that went into each solider!  They turned out adorable!

We are thankful for literacy centers!  This is a favorite time of the day for many kindergarteners.

We are writing in their reading response journals after Guided Reading.  We are thankful for Scentos markers for making drawing even more fun!

We are thankful for snack time!

We are thankful for math games!

This is one of our favorite math games, BUMP!

We had a lot of fun learning and playing this new game together!
Check out this partner group!  Laughing, sharing and LEARNING!
We are thankful for indoor recess and playing with friends!
We are thankful for the block area!  They are concentrating so hard!
We are thankful for the math center.  I never knew that peg boards and counting bears could be used to make a WWE wresting match!  I learn something new everyday with my friends!
We are VERY thankful for the doll house!
We are thankful for a pretend feast! :)

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

We had a lot of fun at Brooksby Farm today...despite the rainy weather.  Here are some pictures from the field trip and our pumpkin investigations last week.

Thank you for your patience with the classroom website!  I am looking forward to talking with you at Parent/Teacher Conferences tomorrow.

See you then,
Mrs. Schulz

The Very First Day of Kindergarten

On the first day of kindergarten, we read the Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.  The story is about a raccoon named Chester who is nervous about his first day of school.  After we read the story, kindergarten friends shared how they felt the first day of school.  Please note that Charlie grinned as he asked me to draw a crying face next to his.

Thank you families and caregivers for your help and cooperation at arrival and dismissal! I am so excited to get to know you and your kindergartener!
